Why We Built This Site
New York divides criminal-record access by record type and purpose. Essex County police agencies create incident and arrest reports, the Lewis jail creates booking and custody material, and each court keeps its own docket and disposition. DCJS holds the fingerprint-based state repository but limits Personal Record Review to the subject or attorney. OCA operates the separate public CHRS court search. DOCCS and the state registry answer still other questions. We arrange the verified contacts, official portals, known fees, and request steps around those real divisions.
What You Will Find Here
- Record guides: how Essex County court, arrest, jail, and registry records are located and read
- Official check routes: the difference between OCA CHRS and fingerprint-based DCJS Personal Record Review
- Local contacts: verified paths to the Sheriff, local courts, Supreme and County Court, and state systems
- Record sealing: how New York sealing and Clean Slate rules connect to the originating Essex County court
What We Cannot Do
This is a privately run reference site with no connection to an Essex County office, New York court, police department, or state agency. Its role has firm limits:
- We cannot run an official background check or pull a criminal record for anyone
- We cannot file sealing papers, records requests, or other documents on your behalf
- We cannot issue certified copies of any criminal record, court document, or rap sheet
- We cannot give legal advice or explain how a specific charge or case applies to you
- We cannot guarantee that every phone number, fee, or address listed on this site is current right now
An official copy must come from its custodian, such as the Sheriff, the originating court, OCA, or DCJS. This resource can identify that office but cannot issue the record.
Search Partners
Third-party providers power search boxes shown on some pages. They operate their own services, choose their prices, and control their results. A paid signup reached through one of those tools may produce a referral fee that supports this resource. We do not set the provider's terms, fees, or record coverage.
